TOEFL

TOEFL means Test of English as a Foreign Language which is a computer based standardised test to measure English language ability to enrol for English speaking universities. This test is one of the two major tests that are conducted for admission in foreign universities. TOEFL scores will be valid for two years for the candidates who are trying to go abroad for higher studies or work.

TOEFL is introduced in countries like United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Italy. TOEFL iBT test score will be counted on the scale of 0 to 120 points. Examination Format

• Reading:
  It consists of 3 to 4 passages with 10 questions. Students should answer main ideas, details, vocabulary, purpose and overall ideas. Prior knowledge on subject is an added advantage.
• Listening:
  It consists of 2 to 3 conversations with 5 questions each. Each conversation is played only once. Test takers may take a note of the conversation and later answer to the questions followed after the conversations. This category can measure the capability of understanding main ideas, relationship between ideas, speaker purpose, speaker attitude, implications etc.
• Speaking:
  This section consists of 4 tasks among them one is individual task and other three are integrated tasks. In task one question will be depending on the familiar topics only. For other 3 tasks, test takers listen to an academic course lecture and then answer the questions about what they heard.
• Writing:
  In this section there are two tasks in which one is integrated and one is independent. For integrated task, test takers should listen to an academic passage and then answer with a summary about important points. In independent task the test takers must write an essay on their choice and explain it.
